December is a time to celebrate and IFMANM is determined not to disappoint. We will end this year with a tour of UNM’s new Physics and Astronomy and Interdisciplinary Science building known as “PAÍS.” This amazing 137,000-sq-ft Star Wars-esque facility enables the use of some of science’s most cutting-edge equipment to research and test new theories in emerging science.  Albuquerque-based Van H. Gilbert Architects (VHGA) and EYP's Boston-based Science & Technology team designed the building and Bradbury Stamm Construction was the Design-Assist Comprehensive Construction Contractor. Our hosts with the most for the tour are Michael Borowski, AIA, VHGA's Project Manager and Bradburry & Stamm’s own Jim Lloyd.  The technical aspects that needed to be addressed in construction were daunting.  Terms like electromagnetic interference mitigation, advanced vibration control and hydrostatic thrust resistant slabs are all seamlessly incorporated within this project.  After you have been successfully awestruck by PAÍS we will walk over to the Sub’s Draft & Table tap room for some comfort and joy. We will begin at the “Colloquium” on the 1st floor of the PAÍS – Please be prompt we need to move as a group! Parking will be provided at the UNM Parking Structure just to the east of Popejoy Hall, PAIS is located directly west of Popejoy.
