Rupal Engineer, RA, Principal in Charge

Rupal will discuss the history of El Vado, the alliances she worked with (City, County, State, Historic Preservation, etc.), and include a time lapse video and a short documentary.

Rupal is the Principal-in-Charge and Project Architect for Design Plus and has provided architectural services as a team leader on projects for our long-term clients: University of New Mexico, University of New Mexico Hospitals, Central Community College of New Mexico, Arizona State University, Albuquerque Public Schools, Santa Fe Public Schools, and Rio Rancho Public Schools, as well as private healthcare clients.

Rupal possesses in-depth knowledge of the unique and critical requirements for healthcare facilities, especially for renovations. She also has extensive technical expertise in resource management, building systems, innovative design solutions, sustainable design practices, building life-safety and fire codes, ADA regulations, and universal accessibility standards. Her ability to integrate this extensive knowledge at the onset of a project is essential to the effective and successful implementation of the program goals. Her experience is a great asset to projects with very specific programmatic, code compliance, accreditation, construction sequencing, budgetary and scheduling requirements.

Rupal also has extensive experience with renovations and tenant improvements within existing, occupied healthcare and higher education facilities and their complicated logistics, and her long history with UNM, UNMH and APS is a testament to her expertise.

Rupal has been involved in facility-related accessibility issues since the passage of the ADA in 1990. She worked with the State of New Mexico Governor’s Committee for Handicapped Accessibility to provide feedback during the development of the Children’s Accessibility Standards using Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards (UFAS). For the last 14 years, Rupal has focused on conducting extensive research on the impact and design of facilities for adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Recently, Rupal has completed an analysis of six UNMH Clinics to assess compliance with State of New Mexico Department of Health regulations and standards, compliance with "Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospitals and Outpatient Facilities" (FGI 2014) and compliance with New Mexico Administrative Code (NMAC) 7.11.2 - Requirements for Facilities Providing Outpatient Medical Services and Infirmaries, as well as compliance with current building and life-safety codes and ADA regulations.

Education:

Master of Architecture - University of New Mexico
